Shane went to his first MLB baseball game at Yankee Stadium at the young age of 18 months. Baseball has been a major part of his life from the very beginning. Shane, a New Jersey native, grew up playing whiffle ball in the backyard. From there, he continued to play all throughout little league, as well as on his school elementary baseball team earning various awards and MVP/All-Star accolades along the way. Shane was a multi-sport athlete by the age of 6, playing baseball, football, basketball, and competing for the elementary school track and field team.
At age 12, Shane was part of a commissioned Little League team where 20 little league baseball players represented the USA and traveled overseas during the summer to play baseball in 7 European countries against other countries little league teams as American ambassadors of friendship. By the time Shane was 13 he was playing simultaneously on 3 baseball teams and soaking up instruction from multiple development camps, as well as working with major league/collegiate level coaches and instructors to fine tune his skills.
Shane went on to play baseball and football at St. John Vianney HS in NJ where he earned the varsity starting short-stop role as a Sophomore and helped the team on the mound when not playing short. In baseball, he helped lead St. John Vianney to an MCT county championship as a junior, when the team was ranked No. 15 in the state and finished 21-4. He earned all-league and county honors as a pitcher during his senior year. He was also selected to play in the Shore Baseball Coaches Association’s annual all-star game and finished high school with a career batting average of.449. On the football team he played running back, strong safety, and kicker/punter. As a freshman Shane won the NJ state championship Punt Pass and Kick Competition at Giants Stadium. Shane earned first team All-Shore Conference honors both junior and senior year and was named to the All-State Football Team as a punter his senior year. Shane had impressive stat lines on both the baseball and football fields which garnished him many other school and conference/division recognitions throughout his HS career, which led to him being recruited by several division I & II colleges for both baseball and football.
Shane ended up deciding to play baseball for St. John's University, a Division I Big East conference program in NY under coach Ed Blankmeyer. Shane further developed as a pitcher at St. John's where he hurled 24 innings during his freshman season and was named a Big East Academic All-Star Team his sophomore year. During his junior year over the course of rehabbing an elbow injury in the fall, Shane ended up transferring across country to Point Loma Nazarene University in Southern California to play baseball on scholarship under coach Jay Johnson, who is now the head coach of LSU. Shane played 3 season's on the mound for PLNU where he was scouted by the Braves, Orioles, and Mariners. During collegiate summer season's Shane was elected to the ABCCL's all-star team as a short-stop and earned "Most Outstanding Pitcher " for the inaugural summer season of the Hawaii Collegiate Summer Baseball League where he posted a 0.27 ERA over 37 innings of work and helped lead the Oahu Paddlers to the championship.
Shane graduated PLNU with a business degree and currently owns and operates a local wealth planning practice here in San Diego. Shane came to San Diego to play baseball but also found love. While at PLNU he met his beautiful wife Robyn and they now have 3 children and currently reside in Escondido. Shane moved into coaching after college and over the years has coached for the Scripps Ranch Little League, San Diego Storm 13U, the Saints 7/8U teams, and most recently EYB & Escondido 9U All-Stars/Stallions programs. Shane currently spends most of his free time coaching his son and EYB Pony league teams in addition to conducting private lessons. Shane can sometimes be found still playing hardball with the NCMSBL men's baseball league from time to time. Shane's favorite movie is the Field of Dreams. He also strives to Lead Like Jesus and serve the Lord faithfully.
